My first assignment from TAD's opening workshop. The goal was to create a readable piece using only value and shape, no line at all.
I think overall it turned out pretty successfully. The composition was tricky as it had to be square, but through a lot of fiddling and shuffling it ended up working out pretty well.
We focused a lot on process as well; doing thumbnails, value studies, and color studies before even starting on the finished piece, which I think is gonna be a good habit to get in to.
Aaaand that's all I've got. xD
Photoshop, Intuos4, 6-8 hours for the whole process
Well the thumbnails are all pretty indiscernible, but here's the final value study I did for it: [link] Though even in that the values are kinda off, it's a very bad photo. XD
The point is that dragging an enormously bulky screen, complete with bulky power cords, is very inconvenient. So when I'm travelling, like right now, taking along a laptop and small tablet is a much more preferable choice.
How did you do the bricks? Is that a texture? The purple tones are amazing!
And the bricks are a texture, yeah. We were out getting groceries and I took a picture of the building's brick wall. 8D
This is a very balanced piece, very visually engaging. Colors, lights-n-darks, composition... actually a really great illustration.

But yeah, thanks very much! :3
