Here's, as the title implies, a master copy of a piece by Franklin Booth.
This was quite fun, quite challenging, and quite time consuming. Been working on it on and off for about three weeks, and still had to stay up till like 3am last night to get it done in time for class. And the best part is that for self-critique, I find that I need to use more lines of smaller width and tighter spacing, meaning it should've actually taken significantly longer than it did. xD
But, regardless of all its hideous errors, I'm pleased with the result and the fact that I stuck with it and got it done. When asked how he would start a piece like this, my teacher said his first step would be to pick something else. But, through patience and diligence this finally got done, and I'm glad I did it. :3
It's still not even close to the quality of the original, either, but with all these mistakes it's unavoidable that I learned a lot about pen and ink!
Soyeah, hope ya like it!
Speedball pen holders, hunt 512 and 107 nibs, sumi ink, canson illustration board, and too many hours to count.
Still an outstanding piece of art I'm glad you stuck with it too, I LOVE pen and ink stuff like this. Shading and form-building (I'm not sure if that makes sense XD) with lines has always interested me
Thanks, Croco! I totally agree; people who can build volume and form with only two, extremely contrasty values are amazing. I'm not nearly at the level where I can do it properly, but it's an inspiring goal to work towards! :3
Thanks, mango!
Can't wait to see what's next from you
