So like, I bought this really kick-awesome DVD by *jermilex on light and color, and I think it's going to aid my work tremendously. Before I kinda had a vague understanding of light and crap, but didn't really know how it really worked or how to really apply it, but the DVD really, really helped.
So, after watching through it all trying to absorb as much information as I could, I tried out a speedpainting... and for the first time, I think I did it. 8DDD
I think this is my best-lit piece, ever; even if the detail is lacking. But I think the light more than compensates for the detail.
Besides, it only took me like 20 minutes, so I'm way more than happy with it.
(Oh, and if you think your working is lacking proper lighting, be sure to check out the DVD, which you can get here)
This is absolutely stunning. When I saw the thumbnail in my inbox I thought someone like Nambroth or Echodragon had done it xD I absolutely love the painterly brushstrokes, they really add an organic, natural quality to the piece. The lighting is amazing, and again your use of textures is perfect.
20 mins? That's so impressive. This is what I like about you; Even though you make your own tutorials and are already really good, you're never afraid to keep improving and experimenting. You're continually seeking out new methods and instruction, and don't just sit back on your laurels. This is great!
And, yeah, I don't understand at all how artists can just find a style and stick with it. Certainly, I have ones I like and ones I dislike, but I can't imagine doing just one of them allllll the time (except maybe photorealism, which is... not a style). I think it's very important, especially when you're still learning, to try out lots of different things. 8D
I'm like so shocked at the response this has gotten. xD
