Figure Painting 001by ~Andantonius

Here's a figure painting for our class with Jon Foster. Nothing too much to say about it, but I'm probably gonna be posting a batch of these every month or so if people have no objections. They're gonna probably be one of the few things that's finished enough to post or that I'm allowed to post for a while until we get in to more design and illustrative stuff in our classes.

But hopefully it's of interest anyways, I'm really excited that we still get to work in oils this semester, I really want to get my oil game up so I can do some awesome fantasy illustrations and have some badass originals. It's rather a shame that so many artists forget about traditional materials these days, there's so much to be learned from them and they're just fun to use; digital totally makes sense for production because it's so fast, but a lot of digital work out there would be noticeably improved if the artist would experiment with traditional materials periodically, which is what I hope to do.

But about the painting, it's like my 3rd or 4th full figure painting in oil, and I think I made quite a bit of progress in terms of my color mixing knowledge. I've still got a long ways to go to be able to depict the sense of light I want to capture, but that's just a matter of refining my sensitivity to relative temperature and chroma. Hopefully by the end of this semester I'll be getting somewhere with that, hah.
