Earth Drake Nest - Walkthrough by Andantonius Earth Drake Nest - Walkthrough by Andantonius
I actually remembered to save progress shots for this piece, so here's a little walkthrough for it!

I know I promised a tutorial for my 1k watcher kiriban thing, and I would still very much like to do it, but this may have to suffice for now since I've got the next TAD workshop coming up next week. I'll still try to do something more involved before next semester starts though, so be of good cheer!

In the meantime, I hope this is useful or entertaining or something along those lines.

wonderfully done! itīs a really good idea to start sketching out some plain values of the picture and find and set them to the "main color" at the very beginning. even if only little of it remains, it will be of great help to get a harmonic color scheme in the end!

very inspiring!

Thank you for taking the time to make these. The part especially about waiting until the next day for the last 5% because I always have those parts that bug me.

Glad you found it helpful! :)

And yeah, that helps so much. In any situation if you have some kind of deadline you should always try to 'finish' a day early so you can correct those last few things that'll bug the heck out of you the next day when you see it with fresh eyes.

unbelievably useful! I've been trying to delve a bit more into environment drawings but I didn't know how to go at it. I've seen VERY few artists who take the time to explain things as carefully as you did. so simple to understand and super entertaining to read!! if I didn't have to go train I'd give it a try right now. = 3 =

the rest of your gallery's pretty amazing too! adding you to my watch. keep up the excellent work. :)

Thanks very much! :)

And a tangent is basically when two things on different planes of space connect together and seem to form a continuous line, which flattens the space. In real life, it's what happens when you take a photo of someone with the Eifell tower in the background and they put their hand right underneath the stand of it so it looks like they're holding it; the hand is miles away from the tower in terms of space, but because the base of the tower touches exactly where the hand's contour is it creates an optical illusion that makes you think they're on the same plane of space.
In this piece, one of the bad tangents is in the lower left corner; the shadow of the tree touches the exact same line as the shadow of the log that is much closer in the foreground, which is messing up the illusion of foreground and background cause that shadow is flatting the two different planes of space.

And another walkthrough you mean? Probably sometime yeah, whenever I remember to save the process of a piece. If you're referring to the tutorial thing in the description though, yeah I'm gonna try and do another tutorial pretty soon, something more specific, but we'll see if time will allow it.
